The SPREAD (Spot Positioning, Range Energy and Absolute Dose) phantom is born, the innovative and inexpensive phantom for daily quality checks, developed by the Medical Physicists Team of the Trento Proton Therapy Center (https://protonterapia.provincia. tn.it/) of the Provincial Authority for Health Services (https://www.apss.tn.it/). An excellent example of collaboration between Dosimetrist Technicians
(Nicola Bizzocchi) and Medical Physicists (Francesco Fracchiolla) allowed the conception and development of the dedicated hardware and software in about six months, as well as the validation of the system, halving the duration of the daily quality control (20 min) necessary to monitor the important physical-dosimetric parameters of the proton beams.
