Techinacal developments in recent years have enabled significant improvements in the precision and accuracy of the delivery of high-complexity radiotherapy treatments. These techniques allow high doses delivery to the target volume in a small number of fractions, with maximum sparing of surrounding healthy tissue, and without the need for invasive immobilization systems poorly tolerated by the patient. Hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy now has multiple applications in various anatomical districts (encephalic-spinal, thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic) and in different disease presentations (primary tumours, recurrences, oligometastases). The synergy between radiation oncologists and medical physicists plays a key role in appropriate patient selection and accurate, safe, and precise treatment delivery, taking into consideration both clinical and physical/dosimetric issues.
The conference is targeted not only at radiation physicians and medical physicists, but also aims to inform all health care professionals, specialists and non-specialists, who are involved in the management of oncology and hematology patients, with special attention to primary care physicians who want to expand their knowledge on high-precision, conformation and complexity radiotherapy treatments. In addition to lecture the conference includes an interesting practical session, which will be held at the Radiotherapy UOC premises of the Azienda Ospedali Riuniti Marche Nord Hospital, in which professionals will present the main challenges in the preparation and delivery of hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy treatments.
